Unions & District Cheating the kids?

It was reported this week that there was a tentative agreement between the Redwood City School District and the teacher’s union – basically the kids got screwed. Maybe the kids need their own union to represent them

BUDGET UNCERTAINTIES LEAD TO  
DRASTIC PLANS FOR LAY-OFFS

The Redwood City School District had to give approximately 120 employees pink slips – about 80 of the positions will be teachers. At this stage it is unknown how many of these employees will really be terminated since the expected 2010-11 budget shortfall ranges anywhere from $4.7 to $13.7 million.
Redwood City Students Demonstrate

Redwood City students demonstrated on the morning of March 4th throughout all schools in the district to bring attention to the educational budget cuts. California was denied hundreds of millions of dollars in "race to the top" funds by the Federal government on the same day.

Assemblyman Jerry Hill introduced bill 1455. This bill would allow Junior institutions like Cañada College to offer bachelor degrees in a limited number of fields such as nursing, education and biotechnology.

A new age of Harmony at the
North Star – McKinley campus.
This year things changed dramatically and harmony has been restored with a change of the guard. McKinley’s Principal retired last year and North Star’s Principal, Ray Dawley, shifted over to become McKinley's new Principal.
